Parliamentarian Duminda Silva returned to the island early this morning, sources close to him claimed.
Silva was receiving treatment in Singapore for the injuries he suffered during a shooting incident in 2011 in which presidential adviser Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra was killed.
The Attorney General’s department had recently instructed the police to file a case against MP Silva over the incident.
According to the instructions issued by the AG, the CID has also been told to file cases against 12 others in relation to the case.
Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra was killed in the shooting incident in October 2011 and Silva was seen as one of the main suspects in the murder.
Silva is now scheduled to appear in court over the case on March 14. The police said that he has been placed under police remand at a private hospital.
Hirunika Premachandra, the daughter of late government member Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, had told the Colombo Gazette recently that she fears for her life as the case gathers steam again.
Premachandra also raised hope that justice will finally be meted out against her father’s killers. (Colombo Gazette)
