No room to destroy national unity says President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa says he will not allow anyone to destroy the national unity of the country, the government information department said today.
The President said that the government is bound to ensure the security of all citizens in the country devoid of their ethnicity, and the government is performing its duties and responsibilities it owes to the people who were born and bred in the country, irrespective of their ethnicity.
The President also pointed out that an environment has dawned in the country for all communities to live in peace and harmony without any fear and suspicion.
The government information department said that Muslim representatives of local government institutions had met the President last Friday and discussed issues in their areas.
“The Muslim representatives stressed that they are prepared to perform their duties by the motherland, and expressed happiness for the opportunity they have received to work for our motherland under the leadership of the President. They said that the Muslim community has enormous faith in the President who treats all communities equally, and vowed their unreserved support to carry forward the government’s development drive and to strengthen the SLFP, which is a party of all communities,” the government information department statement said.
Deputy Minister of Economic Promotion Faizer Mustapha, Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Deputy Minister Abdul Cader, Eastern Province Chief Minister Najeed Abdul Majeed, Parliamentarian and Presidential Advisor A.H.M. Azwer and the Mayor of Matale Haleem Kareem attended the meeting.
