Maldives reporter rushed to Colombo after attack

A Maldivian journalist has been rushed to Colombo for urgent medical treatment after he was attacked in the Maldivian capital.
Raajje TV journalist Ibrahim Waheed was attacked near ‘artificial beach’ in Male with an iron rod by an unidentified man last night.
The journalist suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Colombo this morning in a critical condition.
Maldives President Mohammed Waheed Hassan has condemned the attack and called for an investigation, his spokesman Masood Imad told the Colombo Gazette.
Meanwhile the Maldives media reported that during an opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) protest last night, two State television journalists who were covering the protest were injured when a packet filled with paint thinner was thrown at them from the crowd.
The MDP said that last evening an Islamic Minister’s car was also set ablaze. The minister represents the Islamist faction Adhaalath.
An MDP spokesman said that the capital was tense last night as street protests subsided and the three journalists were hospitalized. (Colombo Gazette)
