Cough syrups with Dextromethorphan suspended

The Health Ministry has suspended the sale and distribution of cough syrups with Dextromethorphan with?immediate?effect.
A statement by the Ministry of Health said that the?decision?was taken following an alert issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Dextromethorphan (DXM or DM) is an antitussive (cough suppressant) drug. It is one of the active ingredients in many over-the-counter cold and cough medicines, such as Mucinex DM, Robitussin, NyQuil, Dimetapp, Vicks, Coricidin, Delsym, TheraFlu, and others, including generic labels.
In Pakistan another five men who had ingested unknown quantities of Dextromethorphan cough syrup died on Saturday in Gujranwala, pushing the death toll up to 40.

New cases detected in Bambalapitiya, Mount Lavinia and Dehiwala

New coronavirus cases have been detected in Bambalapitiya, Mount Lavinia, and Dehiwala. Health authorities said 30 cases were detected in Mount Lavinia, 27 in Dehiwala, and 21 in Bambalapitiya in the 24- hour period ending at 06 am today. Detained former Governor Azath Salley suffers a heart attack

Detained former Western Province Governor Azath Salley had been admitted to hospital after suffering a heart attack today. Salley had been detained for questioning since March after being arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
