Would-be illegal immigrants arrested in Kalmunai

The police have arrested seven would-be illegal immigrants in Kalmunai, the police media unit said today.
The arrest was made following information?received?by the police that a group of people were attempting to head to Australia by boat.
Investigations revealed that the seven?people?are?residents of Mullaitivu and aged between 26 and 39 years.
All those arrested will be produced before the Kalmunai Magistrate today, the police media unit said. (Colombo Gazette)

Army deployed to protect Parliament from floods

The Army was deployed today to protect the Parliament from floods. Troops were rushed to the Parliament complex area where they took steps to prevent the entrance from the floods, the Army media unit said. The Army media unit said that sandbags were placed along the road that leads to the entrance across the Diyawanna oya.
