UNP sees government hand in Bodu Bala Sena

The main opposition United National Party (UNP) today claimed that the government was funding the Bodu Bala Sena monks to carry out a campaign against Muslims in the country.
UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera told reporters today that he could say with responsibility that the government was supporting the monks financially.
He warned that while Muslims in Sri Lanka may remain silent over the activities of the Bodu Bala Sena, Muslims overseas may react differently.
Samaraweera also compared the Bodu Bala Sena to the Talaiban saying they were fostering religious extremism.
His comments came just days after the UNP had a meeting with the Bodu Bala Sena to discuss Muslim concerns over the activities of the monks. (Colombo Gazette)
