Bill on Resettlement Authority to parliament

The draft bill prepared by the legal draftsman to extend the term of the Resettlement Authority, is to be submitted to parliament.
Cabinet has approved the proposal by the Minister of Resettlement Gunaratne Weerakoon to submit to parliament the draft Bill to extend the validity period of the Resettlement Authority Act of 2007 for a further period of three years, beyond April 10, 2013.
The Resettlement Authority was formed during the latter stages of the war in 2007 as the central body to implement resettlement in Sri Lanka.
Last year cabinet had approved an extension for the Resettlement Authority despite the closure of the Menik Farm IDP camp. (Colombo Gazette)
