Newly appointed Chief cricket selector Sanath Jayasuriya says there is no move to remove senior players Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena from the team.
He said this during his first press conference this evening since being appointed chief selector. The new selection panel also took part in the press conference.
Jayasuriya said that the new selectors have also not yet decided on the future captain of the team as they have yet to meet.
The former Sri Lankan opener also said that the new selectors will focus more on strengthening the Test team.
The Ministry of Sports had this week approved the appointed of the new selection panel for cricket headed by Jayasuriya.
Jayasuriya says he has retired from all forms of the game and will not play even club cricket.
Former cricketers Pramodaya Wickremesinghe, Hemantha Wickremeratne, Chaminda Mendis and Erik Upashantha were named as the new selectors replacing the previous cricket selectors led by Asantha De Mel.
Hemantha Wickremeratne has resigned as selector of the national cricket team and Hashan Tillakaratne has been appointed in his place, the Sports Ministry announced today.
The move follows the Sri Lanka national cricket team having mixed results both in the long and short version of the game. (Colombo Gazette)
