Former Sri Lanka one day international ‘master blaster’ and Test opener Sanath Jayasuriya says his main objective as a national selector will be to pick a good Test team.
In his first comments since it was reported that he will be appointed as the chairman of selectors of the national cricket team, Jayasuriya said that Test cricket is the best form of the game and so that is where his focus will be.
“It is an unexpected journey that I will have to go on with the new post as the chairman of the National Selection Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLCB). My main objective will be to make a decent test side, as we all know that test cricket is the best form of the game which follows up with One day(50 over) cricket which is superior in its own ways,” Jayasuriya said in a Facebook posting today.
He urged his fans to support him in his new role, which is yet to be formally announced by the cricket board or the Sports Ministry.
After retiring from the game Jayasuriya entered politics and supported the government and then recently opened a restaurant. (Colombo Gazette)
