Cabinet reshuffle next week

There is strong speculation that a cabinet reshuffle will take place next week, government sources said.
Several Ministries are expected to change hands during the?reshuffle with some former Ministers also likely to be reappointed.
Former Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama is among those tipped to make a comeback into the Cabinet.
A new Prime Minister is also expected to be named as a result of the poor health of current Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne.
There has been speculation over the past several weeks that former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake will be reappointed Prime Minister. (Colombo Gazette)

Individual shot dead in Middeniya

An individual was shot dead in Middeniya last night, the Police said today. The Police said that the shooting had taken place in Sathosmathagama in Middeniya. Unidentified gunman had opened fire killing a 47-year-old man while he was returning home on a motorcycle. The Police had said this week that 26 shooting incidents had been reported in Sri Lanka over the past three months. According to the Police, 30 people were shot dead in Sri Lanka since 31 May. Overseas travel ban on Basil temporarily lifted

The overseas travel ban imposed on former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa has been temporarily lifted. The Supreme Court lifted the ban until 15 January. The travel ban imposed on former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa had earlier been extended until 5th September. A motion had been filed in the Supreme Court seeking an overseas travel ban on Mahinda Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa and former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Ajith Nivard Cabr
