Australian opposition MPs to visit Jaffna

An Australian opposition delegation?scheduled?to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow, will visit Jaffna and meet Tamil community leaders, the Australian Associated Press reported today.
The report said that Australian Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop will lead the opposition delegation to Sri Lanka to talk mainly about people smuggling.
Bishop will be joined on the trip by immigration spokesman Scott Morrison and border protection spokesman Michael Keenan.
The group will meet with senior Sri Lankan government officials and opposition parliamentarians to talk about the people smuggling trade.
Bishop has said that the delegation will also travel to Jaffna, where they’ll meet with Tamil community leaders and see first-hand the conditions under which Tamils are living.

Sri Lankan student jailed for 10 weeks for molesting woman in lift

A Sri Lankan student who molested a woman in a HDB lift in Singapore was jailed for 10 weeks today?(May 3). Yattowita Withanage Buddhika Padmakumara, 28, pleaded guilty to grabbing the 33-year-old woman’s buttock in a lift at Buangkok Crescent at about 7.20pm on April 13 this year, the Straits Times reported. A court heard that Padmakumara was on his way home at about 7.15pm that day when he saw the victim walking alone from a bus stop. He decided to follow her as he found her very attractive.

Motor traffic DIG questioned by CID on Thajudeen murder

The police DIG in charge of motor?traffic Amarasiri Senaratne was today questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department over the murder of former Sri Lanka national rugger player Wasim Thajudeen. The Colombo Additional Magistrate in February?ordered the CID to arrest the suspects linked to Thajudeen’s murder.
