Romania busts racket involving Lankans

Romanian authorities have busted an operation involving the smuggling of Sri Lankans to Romania, the Romanian media reported today.

According to the media report a French national of Sri Lankan origin, Nagalingam Santhirarajah, was involved in the racket.

He had managed to assist a group of Sri Lankans to cross the Romanian border illegally for 2,500 Euros each.

Investigators say 13 Sri Lankans were transported to Romania from where they were to be transferred to France.

The Romanian police have meanwhile begun raids on house to look for illegal immigrants. (Colombo Gazette)
