The police hailed the 119 emergency hotline service following the arrest of two suspects involved in the Mirihana gang rape incident.
A statement by the police media unit said that the immediate response by the Mirihana police following the telephone call received on the 119 hotline in connection with the rape incident, helped the police arrest two suspects and also take into custody two three-wheelers.
A 47 year old woman was gang raped in Mirihana on Wednesday while she was having a bath near a well.
The police media unit said that following the arrest of two suspects over the rape incident the victim and the two suspects were taken to the police station to record statements.
“The efficiency of the 119 hotline was shown with the immediate arrest of the 2 suspects. This also shows that the 119 hotline is a help in cracking down on crime,” the police media unit said.
The police are looking for two more suspects over the rape incident. The victim was admitted to the Kalubuwila hospital. (Colombo Gazette)
