Temporary ban on ‘Vishwaroopam’ in Sri Lanka

The government has decided to temporarily ban the screening of the Tamil movie ‘Vishwaroopam’ in Sri Lanka.

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the decision was taken amidst fears the movie may incite religious tensions in Sri Lanka.

The Tamil Nadu government has also imposed a temporary ban on the movie which was directed by popular Tamil actor Kamal Hassan.

The Tamil Nadu government banned the release of the multi-starrer movie, citing ‘law and order’ reasons, following the demand of various Muslim organisations in the state, the Hindu newspaper reported today.

Reacting to the ban, Kamal Hassan said: “I am in a different time zone. Either media waits for me to wake up or justice will…”

Kamal Haasan is currently in the United States promoting his movie. The statement was released by his spokesperson.

The Hindi version of the film titled Vishwaroop was premiered in Los Angeles on Wednesday for international audience.
