Jaffna Court frees suspect in jail for 5 years

The Jaffna High Court has released a man who was arrested by the Terrorist Investigations Division and kept in prison for five years.
According to reports from Jaffna, the suspect was arrested in 2007 on the allegations that he was involved with the LTTE and had taken part in an attack on the navy during the war.
The suspect, Mohanasundaran Suhumar, a resident of Trincomalee, was arrested and jailed after being produced in Court in Colombo.
However the case was subsequently handed over to the Attorney General’s department which in turn handed it over to the Jaffna high court.
The Jaffna High Court had ruled that there was no evidence to substantiate the claims against him and ordered his release yesterday. (Colombo Gazette)
