Weather death toll nearing 50

The death toll from the extreme weather conditions experienced in the country for nearly a month is nearing 50.

As of yesterday the death toll had risen to 46, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.

The DMC also said that 8 people are still missing following the heavy rain, floods and landslides.

Thousands had been affected by the bad weather and hundreds were forced out of their homes.

The DMC said that just over 5000 people are still in evacuation centers around the country. (Colombo Gazette)
