Weather death toll nearing 50

The death toll from the extreme weather conditions?experienced?in the country for nearly a month is nearing 50.
As of yesterday the death toll had risen to 46, the Disaster Management Center (DMC)?said.
The DMC also said that 8 people are still missing following the heavy rain, floods and landslides.
Thousands had been affected by the bad weather and hundreds were forced out of their homes.
The DMC said that just over 5000 people are still in evacuation centers around the country. (Colombo Gazette)?

Prime Minister confirms LG polls will be held in February

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe confirmed that the Local Government (LG) elections will be held in February. He says the election will be held on the first Saturday after February 4th. The Prime Minister said that all the barriers preventing the LG elections from being held have now been removed. Minister P Harrison had said earlier that the LG elections is expected to be held on February 10. (Colombo Gazette)
