Death toll from rain goes up

The death toll from the heavy rain, floods and landslides has risen to 39, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said today.

According to the DMC seven people are still missing from the Matale district. The death toll stood at 36 yesterday after the bodies of two of the 9 people reported missing earlier had been recovered.

Almost one million people were affected by the bad weather over the past two weeks with 31861 people displaced.

Several families were forced to be evacuated in Mannar yesterday after rising flood waters?threatened?their?houses.
