Nine still missing after bad weather

The?Disaster?Management Center (DMC) says 9 people still remain missing after the bad weather?experienced?in most parts of the country last week.

Among those missing are 7 in Matale and 2 people in Batticaloa. Matale was mostly affected by landslides following the heavy rains.

In total 34 people have been confirmed dead as of last evening 28,833 people are still in evacuation centers.

Over 300,000 people were affected by the rain, strong winds, floods and landslides.

Canada has offered $3 million to help the most vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka. Monaragala Police SSP arrested with cannabis plants

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) attached to the Monaragala Police Station has been arrested with several cannabis plants. SSP Sisira Kumara was arrested by the Police Special Task Force (STF). The Police media unit said that over 650 cannabis plants were seized. According to the Police, a metal detector was also found in his possession.
