Gold smuggling attempt in India foiled, Lankan arrested

Indian customs officials have arrested a 24-year-old Sri Lankan national and recovered three gold wires weighing 511 grams concealed in the lining of his suitcase. Inshaf Mohammed confessed that he was a trader of ready-made garments, who used to come to Bengaluru to pick up goods and sell it in Sri Lanka, The Hindu newspaper reported. Madras High Court sets deadline for probe on Lankan Navy

The Madras High Court Bench has directed the Ramanathapuram police to complete within six months the investigation into the death of Rameswaram fisherman K. Britjo, who was shot dead in the high seas allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy on March 6. It sought a final report to be filed before the lower court, The Hindu newspaper reported.
