Devotee sets fire to himself in Kataragama

A devotee set fire to himself in Kataragama today and he later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The devotee had set fire to himself at the Vishnu Kovil at the Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Dewalaya. A part of the temple also caught fire but it was extinguished. The devotee was admitted to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries later. (Colombo Gazette)

Gota insists he never operated white vans

Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa insists he never operated white vans. Speaking at the ‘Eliya’ programe the former Defence Secretary said that various allegations were made against as a result of the successful efforts he took to defeat terrorism and in the war on drugs. Rajapaksa was accused of being behind the several “white van abductions” that took place during and soon after the war. However he says he never had white vans with him. Two bodies recovered from construction site

The bodies of two labourers were found at a construction site in Weligama. The Police said that the two young men had reportedly died eary this morning after falling into a water hole at the construction site.
