No civil war in Sri Lanka

Bandula Jayasekara, Consul-general of Sri Lanka in Sydney, insists there was no civil war in Sri Lanka but only a terrorist problem.

“Sri Lanka did not have a civil war. We suffered in the hands of a brutal terrorist organisation, LTTE, which tried to separate the island for nearly 30 years. They mastered and perfected the art of suicide bombings,” he told The Australian newspaper.

Jayasekera recall;ed that the security forces carried out a humanitarian operation and ended 30 years of bloody terrorism which nearly destroyed my country.

“There was no brutal prosecution. There is no persecution of Tamils in Sri Lanka. They are our people and Sri Lankans,” he said.

“Let me remind you that it was the LTTE terrorists who wiped out the Sri Lankan Tamil leadership including our foreign minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, the mayor of Jaffna, Sarojini Yogeswaran, and MP Neelan Thiruchelvam, to name a few,” he added.
