The government has not decided on imposing emergency in the flood affected areas, Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Amaraweera said today.
He said that declaring emergency in the affected districts can have an impact on the tourism sector.
As a result the government has not declared emergency in any of the areas but is meeting the requirements of the affected families, he said.
Over 20 people have been killed, saveral others are missing and over hundreds have been displaced after heavy rains, floods and gale force winds lashed parts of the country over the past few days.
The Chilaw town went under water today while parts of Puttalam was also flooded.
The Disaster Management Centre said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa was in constant contact with them over the current situation.
