Kenya nominates Asoka De Silva to judges board

The President of Kenya Mwai Kibaki has nominated former Chief Justice?Asoka De Silva to the Kenyan Judges and Magistrate Vetting Board.

The objective of the board is to vet the suitability of all the Judges and Magistrates. The board operates for one year from the date of operationalization.

Asoka?De Silva is one of?three foreign judges nominated to Board. The others are Justice (Rtd) Barnabas Albert Samatta from Tanzania and Justice A.E.M Mpagi Mahigeine from Uganda.

They will replace the outgoing non-citizen members of the board from?Ghana, the United Kingdom and Quebec.

Through a letter dated December 17 sent to Parliament by the Head of Public Service Francis Kimemia, President Kibaki, in consultation with Prime Minister Raila Odinga, asked MPs to approve the names.
