Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R. Sampanthan had a discussion today with IGP N.K Illangakoon on the situation in Jaffna involving the Jaffna university students.
The Uthayan newspaper reported that Sampanthan had telephoned the IGP to discuss the situation which had arisen following the arrest of some students.
A tense situation had developed in Jaffna last week after some students had attempted to commemorate the LTTE “heroes day” anniversary.
The IGP had informed Sampanthan that four students had been arrested by the police Criminal Investigations Division and have been detained at the Vavuniya prison.
The IGP has also said that the parents of the students have access to them in prison.
