Tense situation at Jaffna uni

A tense?situation?developed?at the Jaffna university this evening as some students?commemorated?the LTTE ‘heroes day’ anniversary.

The Jaffna based Uthayan newspaper said that the army stormed into the university premises and prevented the students from continuing with the commemorative events.

TNA MP E. Saravanabawan had also arrived at the scene together with journalists from the Uthayan newspaper to see first hand what was taking place.

A strong?military?and police ?presence was seen around the university premises during the incident, the Uthayan newspaper said.

The newspaper ?also said that military intelligence officers had taken photographs of the Uthayan journalists who were covering the incident.

Qatar to establish residential village for IDPs in Sri Lanka

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has completed a project to establish a residential village for 800 internally displaced people (IDPs) in Sri Lanka. Reunion Island frees seven Sri Lankan fishermen

Reunion Island has set free seven Sri Lankan fishermen who were detained for entering the seas off the French island illegally. The boat with the Sri Lankans was detained after it entered Reunion island last month. Seven men were on the fishing boat registered in Sri Lanka.
