The navy arrested 100 asylum seekers who were heading to Australia by boat and brought them to the shore this evening, a navy official said.
According to the official, the asylum seekers were arrested off Kirinde late last night and were borough to the shore in Galle this evening.
The navy official said that women and children were among those on the boat heading to Australia when it was spotted by a navy patrol craft.
Among the people on the boat were Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims. Further investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)
