The police said they had busted a major heroin ring operating in Sri Lanka with the arrest of two most wanted heroin dealers.
Police spokesman SSP Priyashantha Jayakody said that heroin hidden in 222 water pumps smuggled from Pakistan were also recovered.
The police said that Samantha Kumara alias Welle Suda and Mohammad Hakeem were arrested together with 35 kilograms of heroin.
The arrest was made following a sting operation carried out over the past few days by a special police team.
SSP Jayakody said that two Pakistani nationals had also been arrested over the heroin smuggling operation.
He said the recovery of the water pumps with heroin concealed inside showed that various new methods are being used to smuggle heroin to Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
