Investigations have been launched into an incident where 27 children attached to a school in Kurunegala were hospitalized after consuming vitamin tablets provided by health officers yesterday.
The police media unit said that the health officers had given the vitamin tablets to the children from year 4 and 7 during a health program yesterday.
However in the afternoon 27 children had vomited and felt faintish and were rushed to hospital for treatment, the police media unit said today.
The police said that the children hospitalized were aged between 8 and 12 years old and two children were transferred to the ICU.
The police suspect that poisoning caused by the tablets had resulted in the children falling sick. (Colombo Gazette)
