The relative of Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Selvam Adaikalanathan, whose body had been found in Nanu Oya on Wednesday, had been killed for money, the police headquarters said today.
Sinnadurai Igneshwaran, who worked as a gold broker, was reported missing from Kotahena earlier this week by his wife.
A complaint was lodged with the Kotehena police and the Pettah police had later taken over the investigations.
The police had arrested a suspect yesterday who had worked as a broker with the victim, the police media unit said.
The police said that Igneshwaran had been murdered after he had collected Rs. 3.3 million from two businessmen to purchase gold.
Police investigations had revealed that he was murdered and the body was later dumped in Nanu Oya by the suspect who had stolen the money.
The police had recovered the stolen money and also seized the car used to transport the body of the victim to Nanu Oya.
Further investigations are underway.
