The department of meteorology says heavy rain will be experienced in most parts of the country today.
The department said that a depression in the Bay of Bengal was centered about 250 km east of Mullattivu coast at 02.00 a.m. today. It is likely to move in westward direction and deepen in to a deep depression.
Fishing and naval communities have been requested to be vigilant over strong winds, showery weather and rough seas in the areas off the coast from Mannar to Batticaloa via Jaffna and Trincomalee.
“Under the influence of the depression most parts of the island will experience rainy conditions. Strong winds and very heavy rain falls(more than 150 mm) will also occur in the Eastern, Northern, North- central and North -western provinces. Scattered heavy rain falls (more than 100 mm) are also expected elsewhere,” the department of meteorology said.
