Warrants are to be issued through the international police, INTERPOL, to arrest 14 suspects over the October 14 incident in Tangalle where five fishermen were attacked and thrown overboard.
The police media unit said that the warrants were issued by the Tangalle District court based on information provided by the police.
Five fishermen who went out to sea were attacked and thrown overboard by around 10 people on a small boat and the multiday trawler used by the fishermen was seized.
Three of those thrown overboard have been reported missing and are believed dead while the other two were rescued.
Investigations revealed that the multiday trawler which was seized by the attackers was to be used to transport illegal immigrants to a foreign destination.
The police said that following investigations 14 suspects including some women were identified and a court warrant was obtained to arrest them.
