UNP WC split on rally

UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara says the UNP Working?Committee?(WC) was split on the decision regarding UNP members attending the rally organised by the Bhikku Front this week.

Speaking at a media briefing today Bandara said that six members of the UNP Working?Committee had felt the UNP members should be allowed to attend the rally where Sarath Fonseka was also a guest.

However he said that party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and two others had opposed it.

Bandara also said that he has still not?received?a letter?from the UNP General Secretary saying that he has been suspended from the party pending a disciplinary inquiry for attending the rally.

The UNP MP said that his actions were not in violation of the party constitution and he will remain with the UNP.

Health authorities confident situation in Colombo will improve

By Vyshnavy Velrajh Health authorities have played down concerns over the spread of the coronavirus within the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) city limits, stating that they are confident the situation will improve in the near future. Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera told Colombo Gazette that there was a reduction in the spread of the virus in Colombo at present. ?We are heading towards that direction and can see a significant reduction in the spread of the coronavirus,? he said.
