Ranil gets report on UNP members at rally

UNP and opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has been submitted a report on the UNP members who attended the rally at Hyde Park organised by the Bhikku Front today.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told the Colombo Gazette that the report includes the names of 3 UNP parliamentarians and 2 provincial council members.

He said that the UNP leader will decide the next course of action?against?those UNP members after consulting the party.

UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya had not attended the rally despite earlier announcing he will be on stage with former army commander Sarath Fonseka.

However UNP MPs Palitha Range Bandara and?Palitha Thewarapperuma were seen on stage.

UPDATE: The UNP members who attended the rally have been suspended pending a disciplinary inquiry

Major fire at leading private establishment at Hyde Park

A major fire broke out at a leading private establishment at Hyde Park in Colombo this afternoon. The fire broke out in a section of the ?David Pieris?Motor Company?building. Staff in the building were evacuated and the fire brigade extinguished the flames. Several fire engines were deployed to bring the fire under control. (Colombo Gazette)
