Opposition and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has rejected a request from UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya to allow UNP members to attend a rally on Thursday organized by a group of monks where Sarath Fonseka will also be a participant.
Speaking to a group of journalists at his office this evening Wickremesinghe said that the UNP working committee decision on UNP members attending the event still stands.
He also warned that UNP members who attend Thursday’s rally stand to lose their membership in the party.
UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya had in a letter to the UNP leader, urged him to reconsider the decision to ban UNP members from attending the rally organized by the United Bhikku Front.
Jayasuriya and a few other UNP members had said they will attend the rally despite the ban by the party leadership. (Colombo Gazette)
