A tense situation has developed in Pilliyandala as a group of monks surrounded the Piliyandala police station over an incident involving alleged unethical conversions.
The police had yesterday arrested a man after the monks representing the Bodu Bala Sena handed him over to the police over allegations he was involved in unethical conversions.
However the police released him on bail today and arrested two people who had provided the information to the monks about the man and his alleged involvement in unethical conversions.
The monks protested over the arrest of the two people and demanded their release. The monks blocked traffic and protested outside the police station.
The police later said that the two people will be freed this afternoon.
