Fonseka says opposition is weak

Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka says he is pushing to form a common opposition as the current opposition is weak.

Speaking at a rally in Panadura this evening Fonseka also called for a change in the local system where the public must bow down to the Judge in court.

Meanwhile also speaking at the rally, former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva said that a ruling he gave in the ‘Helping Hambantota’ case ensured President Mahinda Rajapaksa remained in power.

“People accuse me of helping President Mahinda Rajapaksa to remain in power. Yes it is true. That is why I am now asking the people to remove him,” Silva said.

The former Chief Justice also challenged opposition leader Ranil Wickramasingha to an open debate over some comments the latter had made about Silva.
