UNP bans its members from SF meeting

The United National Party (UNP) has decided to ban UNP members from taking part in the launch of the new political alliance by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

Fonseka had announced that the political alliance will be launched on October 18 and its main aim will be to overthrow the government.

The UNP Working?Committee?which met today had decided not to allow UNP members from taking part in the launch.

UNP members Karu Jayasuriya and Palitha Range Bandara had attended a press conference this week where Fonseka announced the launch of his new political alliance.

Bandara had told the local media this week that a large number of UNP parliamentarians, Provincial Council and local government members would attend the rally on October 18. (Colombo Gazette)

At least 100 arrested after raid on Dehiwala party

At least 100 people were arrested after a raid on a party in Dehiwala, the Police said today. The Police said that the raid was carried out on the party at a hotel in Dehiwala which was organised using Facebook. The Police had found narcotics being distributed at the party. ITAK decides to back Premadasa

The Illangai Thamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) has decided to back Sajith Premadasa at the Presidential election. The decision was taken when ITAK members met today. ITAK is the main partner in the Tamil National Alliance. The TNA as an alliance has not yet decided who it will support. ITAK feels Premadasa has taken into concideration some of the proposals made by ITAK in his election manifesto.

Government accuses state media of failing in its duties

The Government today accused state media of failing in its duties over the past few years. Non Cabinet Minister of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology Ajith P. Perera told reporters today that the state media had failed to give the true picture of deals involving the Government.
