‘Gangnam Style’ registers 400 million hits on YouTube

Psy’s “Gangnam Style” music video has attracted more than 400 million hits on YouTube as of Monday. The video received 403.44 million views as of 3 p.m., and ranked ninth among the most viewed videos on the video-sharing site.

The most viewed video in the history of YouTube is Justin Bieber’s “Baby” with 785.99 million hits, followed by Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor” (605.2 million hits) and Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” (501.93 million hits).

“Gangnam Style” placed second on the weekly U.K. singles chart released on the same day, down one slot from last week.

Meanwhile the chart topper was amongst the top 10 searches on Google in September 2012.

Park Jae-Sang aka Psy is an established singer in South Korea and his song Gangnam Style was released in mid-July. Gangnam Style is a reference to the district of Gangnam, which means “south of the river,” and the residents of the upmarket district are supposed to be one of the hippest and trendiest people in Korea.

Psy’s Gangnam Style made it to the fifth spot in the top 10 Google searches.
