Sri Lanka fight their way into the T20 final

Sri Lanka entered the final of the Twenty 20 (T20) world cup by beating Pakistan in the semi final by 16 runs today.

Batting first after winning the toss Sri Lanka scored 139 runs for the loss of 4 wickets on a slow pitch at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo.

The Sri Lankans got off to a slow start with the usual big hitting Tilakaratne Dilshan also finding it hard to score and making 35 runs off 43 balls consisting of only three boundaries.

Captain Mahela Jayawardena led the innings with 42 runs off 36 balls but the batsmen who followed struggled amidst some tight Pakistan bowling.

Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Gul took a wicket each for Pakistan.

In reply Pakistan managed 123 runs for the loss of 7 wickets despite a good knock by captain Mohammad Hafeez who scored 42 runs.

Spinner Rangana Herath took 3 wickets for 25 runs for the Sri Lankans. Mahela Jayawardena was named man of the match.

The other finalist for the Twenty 20 world cup will be selected following the second semi final between Australia and the West Indies tomorrow.
