The police are to gather evidence using video recordings from the media to arrest those involved in the violence at the Galle Vidyaloka Vidyalaya on Monday.
Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the video recording will be used to identify those involved in instigating the violence and causing injuries to some people.
The video recordings aired on television channels show even students, some very young, pelting stones and other objects at the police and the new principal of the school.
Parents and several outsiders were also seen involved in the violence as a mark of protest over the appointment of the new school head.
The new principal sustained minor injuries while his car was completely damaged after students and parents agitated over his appointment.
Riot police had been deployed to the school after the students pelted stones at the principal and also attacked his car with flower pots.
The Education Ministry said that school property was also damaged in the incident. (Colombo Gazette)
