UK national arrested with over 100 stolen WC tickets

A British national was arrested today with over 100 stolen tickets for the Twenty 20 World Cup match involving England, the police said.

Police spokesman SSP Ajith Roahan said that the 54 year old man from Manchester had stolen the tickets from the ICC ticket office at Stanley Tilakaratna Mawath in Colombo.

The police spokesman told the Colombo Gazette that the British man had stolen 103 tickets for tomorrow?s match between England and Sri Lanka.

?He had 4 ticket books and separately another 3 tickets with him which he had stolen from the ICC Twenty 20 World Cup ticket counter,? the police spokesman said.

The foreigner had arrived in Sri Lanka to watch the world cup matches and had initially visited the ticket counter to purchase tickets. (Colombo Gazette)

Elephant rampage injures 24 people

An elephant rampage at a Temple perahera (pageant) last night in Badulla injured 24 people. The police said that the elephant got disturbed while taking part in the Muniyangana Raja Maha Vihara Temple perahera. The police said that all 24 people were admitted to the Badulla hospital with minor injuries. Among those injured are 14 women, nine men and a small child. US to be asked to show cause

The US Embassy in Colombo is to be asked to show cause as to why it signed an agreement with the Trincomalee Urban Council to open an American information center in Trincomalee without informing the External Affairs Ministry. Probe on police accountant

An investigation has been launched into allegations of fraud against the accountant of the Pollonaruwa police. The police media unit said that the accountant had been accused of misusing funds allocated for policemen attached to the Pollonaruwa police station. The police said that when paying policemen loans applied by them she at times taken part of the money. A special unit of the Criminal Investigations Department is investigating the allegations against her.
