China has sought broader ties with Sri Lanka as both countries celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations this year.
Speaking at a ceremony in Colombo today China’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Wu Jianghao, said that both China and Sri Lanka can work together in various fields.
He recalled the relationship between both countries which was initially enhanced by former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike and has now been taken forward by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He also expressed confidence in the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa saying he will be able to make Sri Lanka the wonder of Asia.
Meanwhile senior Minister D.E.W Gunasekera, who also spoke at the same event, said that Sri Lanka continues to accept the One-China policy.
He thanked China for supporting Sri Lanka at various times especially during the war against the LTTE. (Colombo Gazette)
