The police say there is no ban on staging peaceful protests or demonstrations in Jaffna.
Jaffna Superintendent of Police (SP) Sri Kuganesan said that protests can be staged in Jaffna like in any other part of the country.
However he said that based on the protest and the extent it goes some restrictions may be imposed by the police to ensure it is violence free, the Uthayan newspaper reported.
Meanwhile the newspaper said that the police was informed about a growing trend in Jaffna where black paint or road tar is splashed on houses of individuals.
Recently road tar was splashed on the house of a person who staged a protest in Jaffna while similarly tar was also splashed on the house of a doctor.
However Sri Kuganesan has said that the police is unaware of such incidents and if the perpetrators are identified then appropriate action will be taken against them.
