Beruwala tragedy: No life jackets, small boat

Investigations into the boat tragedy at Beruwala yesterday in which five people were killed revealed that the boat in which they were travelling in was too small and none of them had life jackets on.

The police said that investigations had also found that most of them were drunk at the time they were on the boat.

Five people were killed when the boat they were travelling in capsized in Beruwala last evening.

The boat was taking the group to visit the Beruwala lighthouse when tragedy struck.

The police said that 13 people were on board the boat when it was hit by a strong wave.

But the police said that the boat was not big enough to carry 13 people.

Youth shot dead in Mount Lavinia in broad daylight

Gunmen gave chase to a youth and killed him in broad daylight along a busy street in Mount Lavinia on Monday. CCTV footage showed the gunmen on a motorcycle opening fire on the 19-year-old youth along a lane. The youth is then seen running on the street but is given chase by the assailants.
