Malaka, Rehan freed on bail

Malaka Silva, the son of Minister Mervyn Silva, and his friend Rehan Wijeyratne, were freed on bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate today.
The judge had approved bail after the Army Major who had initially filed a complaint against them over an assault incident, had later filed an affidavit saying both Malaka and Rehan were not involved and that it was a case of mistaken identity.
Malaka and Rehan were earlier arrested after the Army Major lodged a complaint at the Slave Island police station alleging that Malaka had assaulted him at the Jaic Hilton and had also stolen his weapon.
The army had later initiated an inquiry on the incident as it involved an Army officer.
