President Mahinda Rajapaksa urged the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to join the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) to discuss a solution to the national issue.
The TNA said that the request was made when TNA leader R. Sampanthan met the President following an invitation extended by the President’s office.
Ministers Maithripal Sirisena and Prof. G L Peiris were also present at the meeting.
Sampanthan raised the question of resettlement in Sampur and Valikamam and the appointment of a civilian as the Governor of the Northern province and the appointment of Tamil speaking civilian officials as Government Agents of Trincomalee and Ampara.
The President responded by inviting Sampanthan to attend the Parliament Select Committee to discuss the issue.
Sampanthan responded by stating that the TNA has never taken up the position that it will not attend the PSC.
