Malaka ?freed? by Army Major

An Army Major who was allegedly assaulted by Malaka Silva, the son of Minister Mervyn Silva, has now said that he was not assaulted by Malaka.

In an affidavit filed in Court today the Major has said that five others who were also arrested over the incident had assaulted him.

A police complaint was earlier lodged over the incident at the Jaic Hilton but the Major has now given a clean sheet to Malaka Silva and his friend Rehan Wijeratne.

Malaka Silva was this week remanded over the incident and the case was to be heard again next week.

The Army Major was injured and hospitalized following the alleged assault and an army inquiry was also launched.

Fuel shipments scheduled to begin arriving from Friday

Fuel shipments are scheduled to begin arriving in Sri Lanka from Friday, 15th July, Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said today. He said that last Friday full payments were made with the assistance of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Finance to Indian Oil for a diesel cargo to arrive between 15-17 July and a petrol cargo for 22-24 July.
