Dog set on fire, turtle eaten

The police have arrested eleven people over cruelty to animals at two separate locations yesterday.

A woman was arrested in Galle for pouring kerosene oil on a dog and setting the dog on fire.

The woman had killed the stray animal when it came into her house.

A foreigner who attempted to save the dog had lodged a complaint with the police over the incident.

Meanwhile ten people were arrested in Alawathugoda yesterday for stealing, killing and then eating a turtle.

The turtle had been at a school pond and was stolen by the suspects and then killed, cooked and consumed. (Information courtesy Lankadeepa)

No EU monitors for north

SLFP to get tough

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is to get tough on some of its members who have come forward to contest the provincial council elections despite having a bad track record behind them. SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena said that the party central committee will meet today (Friday) to decide on the future of some members.
