An investigation is to be launched next week over complaints lodged by family members of people reported missing in Jaffna in 2006.
The Jaffna Human Rights Commission said that a delegation from Colombo will arrive in Jaffna to assist in the investigations, the Uthayan newspaper reported.
Coordinator of the Jaffna Human Rights Commission T.Kanagaraj said that in April this year the human rights commission had issued a notice calling on family members of people reported missing in 2006 to submit information about those missing with the commission.
Kanagaraj said that based on that request the human rights commission in Jaffna had received information from several family members of people who went missing during that period.
The police will also assist the Jaffna Human Rights Commission during the inquiries together with the Grama Sevaka officers.
Once investigations are complete by the end of next week the Jaffna Human Rights Commission will then seek legal advice.
